Remembering John WansbroughReader comment on item: The Cowardice of Middle East Studies Submitted by dhimmi no more, May 4, 2019 at 14:26 Dr Pipes, I highly doubt that John Wansbrough would have been able to get his great work (Quranic Studies and Sectarian Milieu) published today. And Patricia Crone's great work "Meccan Trade" would not have been published today. Oh, Henri Lammens? He is the one that was able to prove that there is nothing historical about Muhammad's Sira and that the Sira and the Ahadith were written to explain the confused and confusing Qur'an. As for the great works by German historians, with regard to Islam, are not read anymore. Yes it could be because of the hegemony of the English language in the study of Islam. But again it could be because most of their work about Islam is not politically correct. It is most shocking that many of today's "Qur'an experts" have no command of the languages of the Qur'an: Arabic, Syriac and Hebrew. Yes Syriac and Hebrew not just Arabic and you read it correctly! But again, great civilizations shrivel and die when critical thinking is gone and is replaced by political correctness and "group think" Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
