Yes the importance of ideas is overlooked by the "practical" and "clear-headed" pundits who inform and staff our policy centers. Or, could it be, the bold materialists of the 20th century were so epistemologically lacking in self-understanding that they could not see that the only thing Marxism-Leninism had going for it was a "spiritual" fire in the belly rather than the competence in material things that it claimed? I can only conclude that there is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come, even if it is a terribly bad idea.
