Israeli-Syrian Misgivings Revisited - Over 20 Years LaterReader comment on item: The Brink of Peace Submitted by M Tovey (United States), May 7, 2021 at 18:34 Among all the events of hostile intentions directed towards Israel and in view of news reports in which alleged attacks on suspected Iranian Islamic Regime assets in Latakia are being aired, these latest incidents appear to be part of the increased tensions that are prepared to flare up at the least significant reason or concern; except that Israel is always targeted, whether their sovereignty is recognized or not. Certainly, even as conditional as the remark that Israel has the right of defense, it appears that this is not asserted while in the same breath, Israel is always cast as the aggressor. This is even as rockets and fire balloons are sent in for all sides. Let there be no mistake, were is not for al-Assad being distracted for his own Shiite driven assaults within Syrian borders, the Golan is still a sticking point that puts Damascus at risk; Quneitra stands in silent testimony of a disconnected loss of internal security. It is further evidence that eventually Syria will completely collapse when it cannot maintain its independence in the face of the Iranian Islamic Regime and Russian interference and the potential of their increased activities going rogue. So Israel has really some concerns of this rolling over into the Valley of Megiddo, just past the Golan. So, Latakia is some notice of how much this could go really traumatic.
