Doesn't Bauer agree with Pipes that Islam today is in a mess?Reader comment on item: A Culture of Ambiguity Submitted by Malcolm (Israel), Dec 29, 2021 at 05:55 Without having Bauer's book at hand, and merely accepting what Mr. Pipes writes about the book, it seems that Bauer agrees with Pipes that Islam today is in a big mess. Unlike the great deceiver, Edward Said. So it would have been useful for others who lack the book to have heard from Mr. Pipes all the problematic features of contemporary Islam on which the two are in agreement. Could Mr. Pipes oblige us with a short summary? Then we could quote both of them together to that effect. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: Yes, Bauer and I agree that modern Islam has major problems. But he blames Westerners for this and I blame the Muslims. Reader comments (9) on this item
