mecca is holy land because....Reader comment on item: Mecca: A Literary History of the Muslim Holy Land Submitted by Grace (United States), Feb 28, 2006 at 10:58 i dont know the 'official' definition, but i'm pretty sure Mecca is the holy land because that's where islam originated (i.e. that was where Muhammad was when either the angel Gabriel visited him, or that was where he fled to to escape persecution.)
