The Pope stated the obvious and that is Islam was spread by the sword and that the doctrine of Jihad is evil, and it is an irrational doctrine and cannot be the will of a God, And that the Qur'an is a violent book

And I'm glad that the Pope did say all of the above. The Byzantine document? It just happened to be there.

No the Pope should not apologize!
