Political IslamReader comment on item: Polling American Islamists Submitted by Yossi Ben-Aharon (Israel), Dec 26, 2006 at 06:01 As Dr. Pipes knows very well, religion and politics are closely intertwined in Islam. A mosque is not only a house of worship. It is a political demonstration or statement. The minaret, which Islam strives to have it tower higher than any building (or house of worship of a non-Muslim faith) in the vicinity. The muazzin's call to prayer, at dawn and dusk, is also a political statement. If nothing is done to reduce the volume of the muazzin's loudspeakers, thousands of Americans will be wakened from sleep at dawnbreak and their protests will be met with the argument that freedom of worship is guaranteed under the Constitution. This pattern of Muslim assertiveness, will develop step by step to aggressiveness, unless it is checked as early as possible.
