No time to joke...Reader comment on item: The FBI Fumbles [on Gamal Abdel-Hafiz] Submitted by Aaron Uris (United States), Mar 14, 2003 at 21:13 The claim that "a Muslim does not record another Muslim" is utterly ridiculous because it is untrue (it is not stated in any of their scriptures). All state apparatchick in Arab dictatorships (which are too many to list) spy on/record their own and one another's acitizens (almost exclusively Muslim), not to mention the terrible things they do to them even with a hint of suspicion. Abdel-Hafiz's claim (assuming he is no sympathizer of militant Islam) that he might be killed by Muslim extremists is a familiar undercover risk and the FBI could not protect him sounds sad, if not tragic. Not knowing the real reasons behind his action, the least FBI could have done was to discharge him and reassign his mission to another able and willing Muslim agent. The fact that it has not done so lends credibility to your premises in your urgent and important questions.Notwithstanding, what is alarming is the lethargic attitude of the U. S. institutions to the urgent and massive danger that militant Islam presents to America, peace, freedom and prosperity with its organic ties in Most of Arab and non-Arab Muslim countries. Europe is already buying protection through anti-Israel, anti-Semitic and Arab supporting policies. It is typical European action but it won't help them in the long run and they will run back to the U. S. for help eventually. It is up to the U. S. to protect itself with the vigour this problem deserves before it is too late. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
