Surprised to find that Brandeis, by definition, is in no way Jewish.Reader comment on item: [Brandeis University President Jehuda] Reinharz, Israel and Me Submitted by S. Gold (United States), Feb 14, 2007 at 00:06 At first glance and not knowing that the University was using this newly-formed closed committee as a tool to block pro-Israel speakers like Dr. Pipes, a Jew might find this encouraging in the belief that Brandeis would use this to block speakers whose goals are to assail Israel with lies and slander. However, the suspension of Dr. Pipes talk lays the truth bare. Given that Brandeis University was founded by Jews in memorial to Justice Louis Brandeis, one might think that Brandeis' mission statement or charter might mention their committment to the welfare of the Jewish people or to the State of Israel. Actually, the mission statement makes it clear that it is non-sectarian (http://www.brandeis.edu/overview/) with no explicit ties to the Jewish People. Moreover, a glance at President Reinharz' Statement from the President (http://www.brandeis.edu/president/) shows that President Reinharz does not mention at all the tie this University has to the Jewish Community. This ommission is notable and suggests to me that the Reinharz and his fellow administrators at Brandeis will do little to prevent a slow and gradual takeover of this University by left-leaning antisemites. How unfortunate that this promising Jewish experiment that is Brandeis University didn't, from the beginning, incorporate Jewish self-protective measures in its charter that would ensure a student body and faculty that vigilantly looks out for the welfare of Jews and the State of Israel. One would think that after the Holocaust , Jews should have known better.
