Using MEK is a Lose-Lose Proposition

Mr Pipes -

You ignore the most important reason not to enlist or aid MEK in their opposition of the regime : the Iranian people overwhelmingly hate them. If we enabled the MEK to mount an assault of some kind, we would be setting up a war in Iran, with the people taking the side of the regime against the invading MEK, and the MEK would lose, after killing more of their countrymen - don't forget they did when they were taken under Saddam's wing and that's why they are so hated by the Iranian people.

All of those MEK members in camp Ashraf whom you mentioned who decide to take part in the plot, would be killed. And the Iranian people who are now very pro-American, would then be very anti-American for our part in enlisting and supporting the MEK and they would blame the U.S. for the deaths of their friends, family and neighbors. And let's say if by some freak chance the MEK were to topple the regime, what do we do then? They will never give up control and allow the people the true democractic gov't they want. The Rajavis have spent their lives waiting to take over control of Iran. The Iranian people don't want them. We would then be in a position of having to get rid of them.

Using the MEK to try to bring about regime change is a lose-lose proposition.

The goal of bringing down the Iranian regime should be to restore the allied relationship we shared with Iran 30 years ago. Supporting MEK can never achieve that.
