Um... isn't MEK made up mostly of ethnic Arabs???Reader comment on item: Unleash the Iranian Opposition[, the Mujahedeen-e Khalq] Submitted by Chris G. (United States), Jul 16, 2007 at 10:13 If this is the same Saddam backed insurgent force that I'm thinking of, these guys are mainly ethnic Arabs who have been giving the central Iranian government hell even to the Shah's government. I agree with some others that there is no way in hell that the majority of Iranians would support MEK. They do not want Arabs running their country. However I may be incorrect. Maybe since the old days, they have drawn more support from ethnic Persians and the mainstream of Iran. Whatever the case, any support for MEK should be done ONLY after very careful and exhaustive research on the background of their leadership, their popularity different regions of Iran, and their history. Otherwise supporting them could just end up a huge colossal waste of money and could backfire on us horribly when it comes to our goals. Personally I don't think we need MEK. The Iranian President will not last I think. His economy is in ruins, they have strict gas rationing, and generally most Iranians think that he and their current regime are run by idiots. I gather this from Iranians over the internet. Any of you can find English speaking Iranians on chat rooms and can communicate them through YIM, MSN, etc... Its really quite easy to develop your very own little intelligence network of informants in order to gauge the political climate in Iran if you are diplomatic and nice to them. Chris G.
