Reader comment on item: Teach Arabic or Recruit Extremists?
in response to reader comment: How Can American Citizens learn "defensive Arabic language"?

Submitted by yuval Brandstetter MD (Israel), Sep 11, 2007 at 04:46

in Israel Arabic is taught in school, regular high-schools, as a foreign language. It is divorced from the Islamist contents. Graduates who excell in their studies are screened for ability and willingness to participate in National defense in various capacities. People like Daniel Pipes and Martin Kramer should advocate importing some Israeli instructors who are willing to teach Arabic as a foreign language, devoid of political or cultural overtones. Such instructors are already available at MEMRI in Washington.
