Savaging IsraelReader comment on item: Who Supports Israel[, Jews or Conservatives]? Submitted by Arlinda DeAngelis (United States), Sep 3, 2003 at 21:03 Dr. Pipes has raised a very provocative issue in a very provocative format, the phenomenon of Jewish intellectuals and academics condemning Israel. Perhaps, they join the anti-Israel left in a misguided attempt to escape the charge that Jews who defend Israel are not genuine, cutting-edge, provocative leftwing intellectuals. Perhaps, they fear they will be considered middle-class Zionists rather than dispassionate thinkers. Perhaps Israeli courage and resolve diminishes them.Israel in defending itself and the world against terrorism and nuclear war has provided the academic and intellectual anti-Israel leftwing with another scapegoat. In their defense of the indefensible, the anti-Israel left argues on the side of corrupt imperialistic, theocratic nations and groups because its constiuents are poor, uneducated, violent and desperate. The ills of these societies are not the result of their own political, economic and societal degradation fueled and abetted by the corruption of their leaders but are the direct result of the success of liberal democracy. Israel's success is its downfall and its courage to defend itself is barbarism. Therefore, according to the arguments of Bronfman, Sale, Friedman, Sontag, Miller, Arrafat, Hussein, Bin Laden etc, a peaceful world can be achieved through imperialistic corrupt and or theocratic societies waging constant war, revolution and terrorism. This will insure the equal impoverishment, stupidity and silence of all the world's people except, of course, the aforementioned. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is the duly elected leader of a liberal democratic nation. He is a warrior statesman as was Churchill and Roosevelt His first responsibility is to protect Israel from the ravages of constant terrorism inflicted by the Palestinians under Hamas, Hezbolah and El Aqsa led by the corrupt Arrafat and funded by the despotic nations of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Libya. The Prime Minister must wage this war under a constant barage of world criticism. Israel may not defend itself. If the Jewish state is to be annihilated so be it. An ungrateful and myopic world owes Israel a debt of gratitude for its uncompromising courage in the face of relentless savagery and for its vision in destroying the Osirak nuclear reactor in Tuwaitah on June 7, 1981. In so doing, this small and fiesty democracy not only saved itself but the world from nuclear annihilation. To defend acts of unspeakable terrorism against innocent freedom loving people is intellectually untenable and morally repugnant.
