Wrong assumptions.Reader comment on item: Why Oslo's Hopes Turned to Dust Submitted by Motty Perel (United States), Sep 15, 2003 at 00:22 Oslo was built on the wrong premise that bribes will bring Palestinians to accept Israel.By now, the Palestinians have proven beyond anyone's doubt that bribes won't do. You say now that force will do the trick. Well, it won't. It won't because the Palestinians are not a nation. They do not need a country. Muslims of the world pay to the Palestinians living wages for killing Israelis. These wages keep these massively unemployed and desolate people alive and keep their leaders from well off to rich. Whether the Muslims of the world harbour the hope of destroying Israel completely or not, killing Israelis keeps Muslim countries and internal fractions from each others' throats with their religious and material differences. Instead of mutual bloodletting, they get Israeli bloodletting. How convenient! And well worth their money. IMHO, Israel must learn to say NO to American "help". This "help" is too costly. Israeli soldiers are fighting now with their hands tied behind their backs. They are frustrated and feel betrayed by their leadership and by America. The impasse with the Palestinians demoralizes Israelis too. Israel and America are democracies. Democracy is an arrangement limited to the inside of a country. Application of democratic rule to a totalitarian country is misguided in principle and counterproductive in practice. A totalitarian country responds only to force. And force should be applied in abundance. Israel should let its army a free hand to expel the Palestinians from within post-1967 borders by any means available. Then access of Arabs to Israel must be stopped and local Arabs should be allowed to stay only if they submit to surveillance. Rebellious families should be expelled, to the open sea if no one wants them. If America is serious about ending the danger of coming terrorist attacks, it should take control over ALL oil resources nationalized by the Muslim states, starting with the Saudis. Arab oil is the major contributor to financing terrorism. Muslim charities should be followed and Muslim bank accounts should be frozen, and then released one by one when terrorism stops. Next, rather then continuing with the fantasy of converting Iraq and Muslim countries to democracy, America should stop any trade with these countries. That would be enough for them to eliminate each other in religious wars and poverty diseases. If one of those countries then turns to democracy, welcome to the Western club. Did any foreign country pay to turn America, or Israel for that matter, to democracy? Nature does not excuse misguided actions. Why should people?
