I think the recent Nigeria story is a separate issue, doesn't belong in same thread

The 2006 articles suggested this was just a change of tactics by Moslems that really scared me (because the US is obviously totally unable to deal with malignant political doctrines that masquerade as "religion."

However, this latest news from Nigeria says that the oppressive violence of Sharia prompted a government crackdown on that oppression.

I would say that's a separate issue -- a change in tactics/policy by a (admittedly rather Moslem) government, not a change by the Moslems themselves.
