What a stretchReader comment on item: NIE News: Nearly 2/3s of Americans Say It Leaves Them Less Safe Submitted by Rubicon (United States), Dec 17, 2007 at 13:41 The latest NIE, composed mainly by three men who suffer terribly from BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome), and who really are not Intel analyst types but policy wonks, is pathetic. Even nations who disagree with America on almost any & every subject feel this assessment lacks credibility. America's Intel agencies have a very poor track record. Perhaps that is due to a lack of funds, a lack of equipment, a lack of human Intel agents, a lack of legal means to collect data, or any number of things. But the facts are, these same Intel agencies that said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, are now being touted as the most accurate & authoritative source & this nations entire policy decisions should be based on it. Yeah, right! Two years ago (2005), this report said that Iran was developing nuclear weapons, at that time. Yet now they say Iran stopped in 2002 or 3. Yeah, right. Unfortunately, our Intel agencies have been infiltrated by highly partisan policy wonks who desperately want a Democrat in the White House. They figure whatever mistakes they make now their new president can fix once in office. Yeah, right. The NIE reminds me of pre Pearl Harbor days, pre WWII days, pre Vietnam days, pre Bay of Pigs days, pre (name the days) and what you find is an Intel failure. Seems to me we may get better results if we subcontract our Intel activities to numerous other nations who appear to have a better handle on all of this!
