The Silent MajorityReader comment on item: Israeli Leftists Plead for Outside Pressure on Their Government Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Dec 28, 2007 at 15:02 The quote "By their very silence, (American Jews) are massively intervening in Israeli politics" may in fact be true today. My experience is that most American Jews neither think nor care about Israel. Their lives are here in the States, and they have no reason to be concerned about what happens thousands of miles away in a little piece of land in the Middle East. If they choose to forget their roots, and who made them a great nation, they may be letting themselves in for even bigger problems in the future, but that is a personal choice that can't be forced upon them. We live in a free society in an age that allows us to make our own choices about things, although support for Israel of late seems to be the brainchild of Evangelicals, more than Jewish Americans. It is the Little Red Hen story all over again; everyone wants to benefit but no one wants to do the necessary work. Some in our country believe it is the duty of the United States to support Israel 100%, no matter what. That the US should "squeeze" Israel for the purpose of peace, implies that Israel has not made and cannot make a move without the nod of approval from the US. Perhaps David Landau thinks his statements are clever and intellectual, but in reality they are very sad and indicative of the weakness of the present Israeli government. That he is a stirrer is obvious, but what he wants to stir up sounds like a cauldron of chaos, and perhaps he really doesn't care about Israel at all, but merely loves the sound of his own voice.
