A hate justified in factReader comment on item: "Death to America" in Lebanon Submitted by Reza (United States), Jan 24, 2008 at 18:56 Why does no one ask why Iran hates America? For 8 years the US supported Iraq against Iran in an aggressive war where Saddam used chemical weapons against Iranian civilians, killing over a MILLION people. Go figure Iran will come and try to defend its brothers in Lebanon, or will try to get some influence in Iraq today- WE JUST WANT PROTECTION AND SAFETY from the country that has shown time and time again an eagerness to overthrow our elected democracies (1953), support murderous dictators (1941-1979), help Saddam hussein use chemical weapons against our children (1980-88), put sanctions on our civilian exports (still going on) and routinely issue threats against us. Forgiving us for wanting for our children a world where they can grow up without fear. If you really look at it, we're not that different from you, and if you were in our situation you would do the same. If tomorrow Iran invaded Mexico for false reasons, would the US not try to intervene? would they not meddle? would they not kill our soldiers? and rightfully so, they would. Why then is it a crime for us to do the same in our neighbors? Just think if you were us, how you would feel when the US says get rid of your program in one sentence, and then "we are going to attack you" in the next. Mind you, our program ended in 2003, and we repeated this many times. We expected, by ending the program, some sort of reconciliation. Instead, we continued to be accused and threatened. Is anyone seriously still unsure about why we hate America? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
