Why not promote Walls of Tolerance in European communitiesReader comment on item: [Muslims vs. Jews, the New] Locus of Euro-Hate Submitted by Diane Wolff (United States), Dec 10, 2003 at 10:24 Dear Mr. Pipes,Thank you so much for your brilliant piece. I wonder if there is a way to counter-act the hate speech promulgated by militant Islam: I am thinking of a movement for the promotion of the building of walls of tolerance in cities throughout Europe. The idea would be to have mainstream Muslim leaders and believers (perhaps joined by members of other faiths) construct walls of tolerance on the model of the holocaust memorials. The idea would be to proclaim to the world, to the EU and to good members of the Muslim faith at large (and also to the Christian and Catholic and Jewish members of their communities) that anti-semitism will not darken the hearts and the political landscapes of Europe again. If the cure for hate speech is more speech, this might be a concrete way for good to triumph over evil.
