No science in mecca choice

Reader comment on item: Mecca Mean Time?

Submitted by Phil Greend (Canada), Apr 27, 2008 at 23:56

There is no reasonable arguement to change to "mecca time". Nothing of science or physics has ever originated from mecca or sadly from the islamist world.

It would be a slap in the face to all people of learning to change anything from its original name or place to something else, especially to a culture of ignorance.

Very very few Nobel prizes have been earned by the muslim world. There is a reason for this, the entire population is taught over and over again never to question or to challenge anything. The muslim people are told " the holy quran is perfect, the prophet mohammed is perfect , islam is perfect and anyone to tries to tell you different is evil "

The thought of "qibla" the muslim's turning to mecca to pray being used as a reason is interesting. There are over a billion muslims who turn to mecca five times a day to pray. So the idea of mecca being chosen is something. However what if I or someone managed to convince two billion people to pray towards the Canadian province of Newfoundland , would this make it the centre of the world ?

On a sick note, the reason that muslims are led to pray to mecca or more accurately misled to pray toward mecca is the teachings of the " prophet " mohammed. It would be morally wrong to reward him by changing anything to his teachings. Nothing should ever do this. The "prophet " mohammed at age 53 had sex with a 9 year old child, he owned slaves and he killed people. This is not the type of person who should be rewarded. Often times we reward the doctor who discovers a cure for a disease by naming the cure after them. The Salk vaccine is named after Dr. Salk who cure polio. Even if the " prophet " mohammed cured A.I.D.S. , cancer and heart disease , that would still not out do the evil he did.

Science and discoveries should be named after the good people who have searched for knowledge.
