We should try to think like the Palistinians if peace will ever have a chanceReader comment on item: George Mitchell's Return to Middle East Diplomacy Submitted by Henry (United States), Jan 26, 2009 at 08:36 Mitchell knows that viewing this process as an effort to overcome deep convictions will lead to no result as it has over the past 60 years. Who cares if Palestinians recognize Israel - the objective is an end to violence, not global jurisprudence. No one can convince one side or the other from abandoning violence because the Palestinians view this conflict as a war of long term attrition. They believe they will eventually succeed, even if it will take 100 years. Mitchell's appoach is the only sane tactic in a situation like this. The objective is to calm the tensions, and continue the effort to find some relationship that will reduce violence - short or long term. That is the best anyone can reasonably expect. If we focus on changing brain chemistry, all effforts are doomed. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
