Winds of change?Reader comment on item: Netanyahu as Prime Minister - Déjà Vu? Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Mar 11, 2009 at 09:48 If a people elect someone to power, and if it is believed to be an honest election, then it is not only the minority who didn't vote for that person who will suffer if things fall apart---it is also the people who voted for the person. So far, Binyamin Netanyahu seems to say one thing, then does another; there is nothing unusual in that, because he is just being a politician. Of course he wants to stay in power---don't all leaders think they are right? And don't most people vote in someone who they naively think cares about them? It may be impossible, but until Israel realises that it needs leaders that truly care about the people, there will be a continuous string of weak leaders who support only themselves. Dwight D. Eisenhower summed it up perfectly: "A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both."
