What the US is doing is entirely perfect.Reader comment on item: Washington to Tehran: You Can't Come to My Birthday Party Submitted by Gunjan (United States), Jun 28, 2009 at 04:52 Dear Dr Pipes: You seem to imply that disinviting the Iranian deplomats from the 4th of July celebration was not enough. What do you think would be a correct respone? Sending our troops to Iran or bombing their Nuclear establishments will hardly help the opposition in Iran. Such violent actions will cause people to unite under Ahmadinejad with a nationalistic fervor. Cutting our ties with Iran is not possible because we have no ties to cut. I think the US and the world response is perfect. We cannot start praising the Iranian opposition because the opposition is not exactly trying to create a western style secular democracy in Iran. This is the time to wait and see. Let the opposition build in Iran. Let people come out on street and enjoy the pleasure of expressing their views. Let them realize that the most suppression comes from the most fundamentalist and let them realize that fundamentalism is not good. If Ahmadinejad resort to some mass scale murders, I will change my opinions. If he only sends people to jail, I would say that that is exactly how revolutions start. What is happening in Iran is exctly what I would like to happen in every middle-eastern capital. We should provide moral support to the protesters.
