Obama/Israel border policyReader comment on item: Quneitra, Why in Ruins? Submitted by Larry (United States), Jul 8, 2009 at 13:12 Please get off Obama's back about whether he is a Muslim. One, it doesn't matter. He could be Shinto for all I care. That is his personal business. Two, trying to find clues in his speeches is silly. The speeches are written by committees, not all of whose members are versed in all of the intracasies of Islam. Remember, a camel is a horse created by a committee. Obama is just trying to reach out to Muslims, not establish language niceties. Since its re-establishment in 1948, Israel has not had firm internationally recognized borders. Some of the reasons were military and political. It is now time for Israel to declare its own borders. It can deposit the borders with the United Nations. As with other sovereign states (and even the states of the United States), when there are border disputes, the parties must work them out in negotiations (or, in the United States, by a law suit brought before the Supreme Court). If the Palestinians are unhappy with the borders, they can negotiate a change. If they go to war over the borders, they will suffer the consequences. The same is true with all of Israel's neighbors. Israel has already negoltiated borders with Jordan and Egypt (quite successfully). This has nothing to do with a peace treaty-just the establishment of borders.
