Islam and the disparity between men and womenReader comment on item: Predicting Iraq's Bleak Future Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Jul 19, 2009 at 20:50 Saudi Arabia isn't the only Muslim country where women are not allowed to travel without their husband's consent. While living in Egypt, my driver was stunned when I told him that I could go anywhere by myself without my husband's consent. He told me that his wife was not allowed to even visit her mother in another part of Cairo without his permission, that this was a Muslim law. I could hardly believe such a restriction existed---it is barbaric in any age, let alone the 21st Century. It seems to me that Islam is a religion that gives women no rights at all, and I feel sorry for any woman who is bound by the laws of this horrid ideology.
