Reader comment on item: [President Bush and] Naming the Enemy

Submitted by William Stenwick (United States), Aug 20, 2004 at 13:51

It still looks to me like we are dancing around the issue in our usual attempt to be politically correct and placate our misconception that all faiths are basically the same.

In my view, this is a war against militant fundamentalist Islam. Usama bin Laden and his cohorts have said nothing that is not part of the Koran, Sunnah and Hadith. Most Muslims, like most Christians and Jews, simply ignore those aspects of their own religion which they feel are offensive to their own personal values. Unfortunately, the behavior against which we find ourselves opposed, is permitted and under some circumstances encouraged by Islam.

This is just another of many historical instances of the triumph of faith over reason creating absolute horror. The really unfortunate part is that now the forces of the irrational have easy access to weapons denied the inquisition and other such forces of the past.
