America: The World PowerReader comment on item: Hating America's Success Submitted by Alex (Canada), Oct 12, 2004 at 23:33 Great article, Daniel. As a Canadian and loyal ally to my friends south of the border, I read this email with amusement and sheer pleasure. The reality is that the American Empire is the most success and dominant power since the Roman Empire. The central theme to anti-Americanism is 'envy' -- the rest of the world desires what America has successfully packaged and marketed to 'consumers' worldwide. Regarding the quotes from noted Frenchmen -- okay, whatever. As in Quebec, so in France. Wine = Whine. Bottom line. America achieved its success through action. Not complaining. Others who complain did not have the where-with-all and future-think to last as an empire. The complainers are envious and America should realize this and be proud. As a Canadian, I am very proud of our culture, nation, and position in the world. Sadly, I will admit that the MAJORITY of Canadians do not have the aggressive passion of the 'entrepreneur' which makes America so great. That ,my friends is the American Dream. FREE Enterprise. Embrace it and you will succeed. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
