Internal Contradiction

This is a strange justification for promoting US interests. You are effectively saying "The US should promote its interests instead of acting altruistically, because it is good for the world that the US tends to act altruistically instead of promoting its interests". If you succeed in getting America to be more self-interested won't you be undercutting your own rationale?
