Respect: AddendumReader comment on item: Obama and Qaddafi Submitted by Nick (United Kingdom), Mar 5, 2011 at 19:30 And following on what I posted earlier, and what I neglected to say, was that the photo of Obama speaking to Qadafi is one of what is certainly a multitude of similar photos of world leaders in conversations/dealings with him, most notable names springing to mind include David Cameron, Sarkozy, and of course Berlusconi. Of course some of these leaders have had more dealings than others, and Obama has a pretty clean slate compared to other leaders, (see Tony Blair). These images of moments in time however are, at the present time and in light of present events, irrelevant, insofar as they are irrelevant to what needs to be done in light of the current situation. I believe Daniel Pipes in an earlier blog posting mentioned the fact that he refused to go meet with Qadafi in Libya, an applaudable action. The actions which must be taken now against this mad dog at the very least should include a unified, clear response on the part of the international community: United Nations, Arab league etc., a security resolution, and tangible acts possibly including a no-fly zone, and assistance to and aid to the anti-Qadafi protestors, especially if they specifically request such actions. The crimes of Qadafi are evident and undeniable, and certainly seem to include crimes against humanity. No one will be sad to see this clinically ill person disappear from the reigns of power. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
