The term Arab spring doesn't refer to the season except metaphorically

The term "Arab spring" doesn't refer to the season, but to how Arabs are coming out of a long political winter that's lasted since at least the 1950s when dictators took over via "officers coups." Where there once was some freedom of speech before the 1950s, there's only been a revival of free speech and democracy since the Arab Spring started.
