Precursory Interviews prior to US Military Intervention in YemenReader comment on item: Yemen's Descent Submitted by Phillip (United States), Jun 3, 2011 at 15:37 This interview of a former US Diplomat to Yemen and Dr. Daniel Pipes by Peter Lavelle of "Russia Today" smacks of a "connect the dots" fishing expedition to predict US policy in the region. It is clear from both the record and words of Ambassador Edmund Hull is that he is no friend of Israel starting when he was assigned to Jerusalem when he called for (albeit behind closed doors) the return of the city to the Palestinians. Dr. Pipes' marked hesitation and "bridled" responses were indicative of the true nature facing the west when Yemen becomes a lawless proxy of al qaeda in similarity to Mogadishu. My bet is that elements of the Russian government will sell (give) weapons to al qeada in Yemen much like the US did in Afghanistan if there's a military response in that area to protect US foreign inerests in Saudi Arabia. It's unconscionable that the former USSR uses an english speaking mouthpiece (Lavelle) to whip the US for supporting tin-pot dictators in troubled regions when their own actions pale even the Chinese purges in such matters...
