Reader comment on item: Can Anything Be Done to Stop Iran From Making Nuclear Weapons?

Submitted by Jon from Euroland (France), Nov 15, 2011 at 05:25

I cannot imagine that the US and Israel could be so foolish as to allow Iran to go forward on this. Iranian Nuclear capacity has to be destroyed BEFORE it becomes operational, or the results will be the death of perhaps a million or more people, and the destruction of a significant proportion of the capacity to pump oil into the world economy, implying the poverty of millions more. The fact that Iranians might be upset does not weigh in this balance, nor that conventional rockets will likely hit US or allied ships or assets.

The leaders of Iran are clearly not suceptible to deterrence doctrines and a number would seemingly welcome their own demise if such was in their cultist view a step on a path to their vision of "paradise".

Their access to such weapons must simply be denied, and not negotiated. If in the course of such responsible actions many in Iran were to loose their lives, that is unfortunately the price to be paid, as it has been for time immemorial, and more particularly in WW2, when another group of "millennial cultists" dominated another great nation, reduced to graves and ashes to save the civilized world.
