Yes. Something can be done. It's called EMP.

Reader comment on item: Can Anything Be Done to Stop Iran From Making Nuclear Weapons?

Submitted by Vlad Tepes (United States), Nov 19, 2011 at 12:15

A single EMP weapon going off over Tehran will send most of Iran back to the stone age. An EMP weapon will destroy most of the electrical devices in Iran. There will be no more Iranian nuclear program, and not much of anything else. Without electricity, most of the Iranian population will be dead from starvation in less than a year, unfortunately the good with the bad. But the good news is that Iran will have no chance to retaliate, no chance to recover their nuclear program and the Israelis will not suffer a single casualty in the preemptive attack. Retaliation from some of the Iranian associated forces outside of Iran might be dealt with in a similar fashion.

When Israel is faced with an existential threat, as the Iranian nuclear threat clearly is, and the rest of the world does next to nothing about it, then the Israelis are fully justified in existential self defense.

Israel has more than one EMP weapon. The other islamic countries should regard this as a learning experience.

You think this is too harsh?

Iran has already said, in so many words, that this is exactly what they intend to do to the United States. They've already tested their missiles. They've already tested their launch procedures. If Iran gets the bomb, then one day soon an Iranian garbage scow will sail close to the Gulf coast of Texas, draw back the tarpaulin from it's deck and an Iranian missile will rise to a hundred or so kilometers over the central United States. Perhaps no one will hear or see the detonation, there will just be a power failure over most of the continental United States, a failure of power that will never be repaired. And there will be no more United States. Iran will be victorious.

Yes. Something can be done to stop Iran from making nuclear weapons, but will it ?
