Rushdie blocked from entering India by Islamists

Reader comment on item: A Satanic Affair: Salman Rushdie and the Rage of Islam

Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jan 20, 2012 at 11:20

Dear Dr Pipes:

Any one who thinks that Islamism is a local problem for any one country or region does not understand it fully. The Islamic mindset and and goals are common around the world. Most recently, the Islamists in India forced Salman Rushdie to cancel his visit to India for a literature festival. He was asked to either apologize for the Satanic Verses or face the threat of being killed. Rushdie decided to cancel his visit.

The Indian government (which is democratic but relies heavily on vote-bank politics) provided no security guarantees to Salman Rushdie.

Under the Islamist's threat no one is safe.
