A misconceptionReader comment on item: Will the Middle East Lose Its Importance in Washington? Submitted by Harrybaby (Canada), Jul 9, 2012 at 23:29 Everything M.Tovey writes is correct, with a few exceptions. The first exception is the assumption that Islam is one united unit with one united objective, the destruction of Israel. Nobody is arguing that their hatred for Israel is all encompassing, but their ability to destroy Israel is fading together with the price of oil. In fact, the opposite is correct. They are attacking each other and before they confront a formidable foe like Israel, Sunni and shia's will face off in a fight to the death. In a world of 7 billion inhabitants competing for shrinking resources, the non productive nations will at the end of the day, slowly disappear. We see a trickle of this happening in the middle east and North Africa. In my opinion, Islam is a much larger danger to western society than to a powerful Israel. Simply put, if the Islamic arab world does not destroy itself in a bloodbath, Europe will be the next soft target. The naive and politically correct Europeans can be conquered without a shot being fired. So much easier than the despised Jews of Israel, fresh out of a holocaust and armed to the teeth.
