RealismReader comment on item: Democrats Fib Again about Israel [at the DNC] Submitted by Mike Shapiro (United States), Sep 13, 2012 at 10:02 Please try and not dump on the Democrats for either of these. They are, essentially, Mom, Flag and LoCal Apple Pie items. The language about Jerusalem has been in the platform of both parties for decades. In fact, the Dems inserted Jerusalem language in 1972 and the GOP followed two elections later, in 1980. So far, despite the platforms and votes by congress to move the embassy, it has not been done. By the way, Mr. Pipes and others should actually look at the language of the two platforms. The Dem platform states that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. The GOP indicates that it sees, in the indefinite future a two state solution (much less likely than, maybe a three state solution) with Israel having Jerusalem as its capital. Please note that this may seem a subtle difference, but the language of the Dem resolution is significantly stronger than that of the GOP.
