Question about settlementsReader comment on item: Assessing Israel's Security Situation Submitted by Anon (United States), Dec 8, 2012 at 01:09 Dr. Pipes, what is your opinion about the West Bank settlements that Israel has expanded from time to time? Perhaps in any other conflict it would not be a big deal but given the sensitivity and passions involved (irrespective of whether they deserve consideration) and the negative press it receives do you think this hurts the security situation for Israelis? In my view there is no security benefit for Israel from any settlement expansion but I could be wrong. I think Israel's security depends a lot on its ability to maintain its moral high ground. Daniel Pipes replies: If the Palestinians are truly so upset about expanding Jewish habitations in the West Bank, they would pronto make a full and sincere peace with Israel. In the interim, I see these towns as useful pressure on them to settle. Reader comments (5) on this item
