Afraid not !Reader comment on item: Will Turkey's Military Emulate Egypt's? Submitted by Soloview (Canada), Jul 31, 2013 at 17:00 I would not bet on Erdogan being overthrown by the military. He is a smart cookie and has the both the Gulf rivals (Saudis & Qatar) firmly on his side and investing heavily in Turkey's booming economy. The Turkish military has been weakened and seems dominated by the AKP. Lower ranks revolt ? It would likely be crushed. In contrast, Egypt is a basket case. The Saudis have always considered the Brotherhood a potential political threat. (The Brotherhood is banned in Saudi Arabia and the Emirates). Judging from the immediate financial help to the Egyptian military by Riyadh and Abu Dhabi in the wake of the coup, there were probably some powerful external interests in toppling Morsi. One could expect the big players on the peninsula to try to build up some 'mainstream', relatively moderate, islamic political entity akin to AKP that could fix the economy and keep the streets quiet.
