It seems that the Turks kept secret "ancestry codes" in-order to keep track of their non Muslim minorities be it Armenian or Greek or Syrian or Jewish. This came to light when an Armenian woman whose family converted to Islam decided to become Christian and Armenian again and wanted her child to enroll in an Armenian school

Again old civilizations are not conjured away and just below the thin layer of Turkishness the real Turks of today are no more than the descendants of the victims of the Turkish invasion of the Byzantine empire
