may succeed in EuropeReader comment on item: Islamism's Likely Doom Submitted by myth (Germany), Aug 9, 2013 at 09:26 The territory where Islamism may succeed is Europe. Should Islamists across Europe organize in "islamic democratic" parties I see a future. I have the Social Democratic Parties in mind. When the SPD was founded in Germany in the 19th century, the movement preceded democracy in Germany. They look at communist ideals but limit themselves to pragmatic policies. They became an all-European movement. Islamism-2.0 could follow that path. I see the framework of democratic culture as a possible common denominator to unite diverging islamist movements. Not in terms of convictions, but in terms of processes to exchange different views. The wealth and traditions of Europe may provide the practical benefits the muslim world does not have. Taking into account the failure of muslim integration I remember the traditional Dutch model of society: pillarisation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillarisation . I can imagine a Europe where there are organized islamic trade unions, schools, parties , universities and tv stations all cooperating under the islamist ideology. Such a European Islamisms could produce substantial cultural output. It would produce it in dominant European languages other than Arabic too. With that cultural output it could dominate islamist movements outside of Europe. Imagine an Islamic university in the heart of Europe. Today, muslims across the world immigrate into Europe for better job opportunities. Tomorrow they may come to study Islam at a prestigious islamic university. In short, I envision a Euro-centric Islamism. Where Turkey is limited, Europe is not.
