Why I'm SkepticalReader comment on item: Evidence that Morsi Actually Lost the Egyptian Presidency Submitted by Dave (Canada), Aug 19, 2013 at 20:18 This does sound plausible, but I'm skeptical. First, PEW polls have shown very deep support among Egyptians for Sharia, making solid MB electoral support quite plausible. I also don't trust Beilin as he was one of the people associated with the disastrous Oslo fiasco. Furthermore, if Shafik had really won, I find it hard to believe that the military would have scuttled him in favor of someone belonging to a rival power like the MB, just to avoid street demos. Rather, the story sounds like a good excuse for Western liberals to back the military, despite their having lost the election.
