The Campus WarsReader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species Submitted by John (United States), Apr 19, 2005 at 23:04 Leftwing activism on our campuses is juvenile... Is George Bush really a worse terrorist than Saddam Hussein, bin Laden or Zarqawi? Can western culture be labeled as evil in light of its modern progressiveness? The sins of the west are not unique to the west and are only endemic to civilization as a whole, whereas the progressiveness of the west is unique only to the west. No amount of misinformation or biased scholarship can change that. The problem of higher education is that liberal professors and faculty are seeking to build-up the anti-Bush power base in the political arena. Like minded faculty members in our universities are joining together and are actively seeking to ABUSE their power in order to advance their cause, while simultaneously accusing Republicans of the same. As evidence look to groups like the Progressive Faculty Network at Chapel Hill, the infamous Department of Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures (MEALAC) at Columbia University, the Peace Forum at Vanderbilt etc... The PFN and Peace Forum even have webpages on the official websites of their Universities. So basically, these Universities support their political agenda. Regardless, I don't think any action should be taken except to continue to speak out against this situation. I have that right and I will express it. That is Freedom of Speech! If professors like Ward Churchill use public funds to produce hateful propaganda in order to justify acts of genocide against a specific group or nationality, then it is our civic duty to speak out. The fact that such an unqualified person can earn a salary of almost $100,000 at a public University is a testament to the political favoritism on our campuses. If Tom Metzger, the Director of White Aryan Resistance, were to become a professor at a public University then he should get the same treatment for similar actions. Hatred should be condemned no matter whose side it is on. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
