Lousy Outlook, Lousy Friends

Many poor shleps have had an affinity for Islamic supremacists, and wound up palling around with evil, violent people who turned on them. It's much better to be morally centered and pro-Western, because then you will probably befriend like-minded people who are far saner and safer to hang out with. They may be a small minority in the Mideast, but they're the good guys, and they're very lonely.
