Alan Henning warrants special attention

He seems to have been an Al-Qaeda supporter, as were his friends, all of whom seemed to be young men with wild beards. Their transportation was inscribed with the name of an Al Qaeda terrorist sentenced to dozens of years in prison and one of their aims was to obtain her release. Ultimately he was killed as a common infidel, but his 'appreciation' of Islam extended well beyond that of men like Foley.

Of course the Islamists he supported weren't Islamic State, but we can understand what these Islamists with their ragged beards meant when they said he's innocent and called for his release. Innocent not because he's a civilian but because he was actively helping Islamists.
