Is Islam really hijacked by fanatics, by itself for sure and reenforced by fanatics.

This reminds me of the war on cancer. Before you get to the malignant stem cells, you have to overcome a first line of defense. This is one of the theories explaining the difficulty to affect the outcome of pancreatic cancer. Isands of malignant pancreatic cells are surrounded by a dense network of "fibrosis" difficult to penetrate or destroy. So the amount of drugs reaching the target is minimal.
