An Age of DenialReader comment on item: Jihad through History Submitted by Zeph Steele (India), Jun 4, 2005 at 05:10 The western world seems to be in a state of complete denial when it comes to addressing the scourge of Jihad. Europe has been vaccillating for so long, that capitulation to the forces of Islam seems all but inevitable. And the US for its part seems to be opening to the idea of appeasement, like never before. ( Case in point. Secratary of State Rice's statement on the desecration of the Koran issue) .The modern day Fedayeen, like his predecessors from yester years, views his victims, not as humans but as some lower forms of life to be willingly slaughtered on the alter of Islam. The present day socio-economic conditions prevalent in Islamic countries have contributed a great deal in aspiring their youth towards armed struggle against the rest of the world repeatedly blamed for their "plight". The vision of a Paradise, with the pleasures that many of them cant even aspire to in real life goes a long way in clouding their senses, if not judgement-. This and the daily dose of propaganda being pumped by the media and the "religious(?)" zealots contributes to insensitivising the prospective Fidayeen from the pangs of conscience. The choice before the potential victim ( and that includes all who do not prescribe to the Fidayeens interpretation of Islam, and not just a non-muslim) is to fight and survive or capitulate and perish. The sooner this realization dawns on the policy makers of today, the better the chances of their nations survival. To counter the forces of Jihad is no longer a matter of choice but an imperative.
