Political systems are ritualistic dances, Unk. The idea of ours was to keep the power of the federal government so limited that it could not do too much harm. It worked for more than a century, then the citizens got lazy and failed to keep a check on things. The election of Woodrow Willson accelerated our decline. Franklin had good reason for telling his questioner "if you can keep it".

Turkey is a different matter. Aside from the suffering of the local Orcs and indigenous minorities, Turkey is a threat to regional & global security and a NATO member seeking membership in the European Eunics. Erdogan's stunts have consequences.
