Palestinians who cling to IsraelReader comment on item: Palestinians Who Cling to Israel Submitted by Miriam (Australia), Jul 7, 2005 at 03:59 Most moderate Moslems prefer to live in a Western democracy than under their own societies.Even a fundamentalist group in Melbourne, Australia, when interviewed for the Age newspaper recently said it most succinctly:" we have far more freedom to practice our religion here than in our own ME (unspecified) country. We mean no harm here",- but they are intent on promoting Shariah law in their former country on the one hand,- and donnot believe in democracy or any other laws than those of the Koran (i.e. their interpretation) on the other! In Tulkarem where the Hamas won a majority of city council seats, they already prohibited the Palestinian Festival which is being celebrated all over the other parts of the territories. The critics call it "taliban laws" and the Councillors claim that this is what the people want. When interviewed, people said in the streets that it is not at all what they want! Any wonder they prefer to cling to Israel?
