The etymology of the Muslim Brotherhood's al-MurshidReader comment on item: The Muslim Brotherhood's American Goals Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Oct 23, 2016 at 10:30 Dr Pipes This fascinating video is an examination of the etymology the Arabic word المرشد or al-Murshid by Hamed Abd el-Samad who is an Egyptian-German scholar of Islam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orLS9ij8V1Y Notice that the title of the video is: Shi'a Islam and fascism Abd al-Samad believes that the word المرشد or al-Murshid (the supreme guide) was coined by Hasan el-Bana who admired and emulated fascist ideas the likes of Nazism. He also points out that Hasan el-Bana never regarded himself as either Sheikh or Imam as he is regarded now He called himself a Murshid The word Murshid as a Laqab (title) is not used in Islam for a leader of the community Abd el-Samad believes that it is a translation of the German word Fuhrer This means that Hasan el-Bana was really the Fuhrer or guide/leader of the Muslim Brotherhood It makes perfect sense Then Abd el-Samad goes on and links the word Murshid to the Shi'a where such title is given to the likes of Ayatollah Khomeini Now the title Murshid is left to a usually shadowy figure at the top of the MB hierarchy and is unknown to almost all members of the MB Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
