Communism vs. Islamism: From Daniel Pipes to Richard PipesReader comment on item: The Way to Peace Submitted by Robert (United States), Dec 20, 2016 at 10:49 Dear Daniel Pipes, I wish to direct your readers to the books of you illustrious father, Richard Pipes, who is an expert on Russia and the Soviet Union, as I'm now beginning to re-read his books. Those readers who have not lived through the rise and dominance of the Soviet Union may be less aware of the real possibility of a nuclear holocaust that period of history embodied. The reason I encourage a study of the writings of Richard Pipes is due to the fact that, thanks to President Barack Obama (whether or not that was his intention), Russia has entered the war in the Middle East. And this is an unknown new factor. In the Yom Kipper War (1973) , when Henry Kissinger worked under President Richard Nixon, the United States issued a Nuclear war alert when the Soviet Union under President Leonid Brezhnev considered entering the war on the side of Egypt against Israel. Today, Russia is the successor to the Soviet Union, a bit like the United Nations is the successor to the League of Nations. But things have changed drastically - like from Communism to Capitalism. And perhaps more significantly, the Secular Jews of the former Soviet Union outnumber the prior Secular European Jews, constituting over a million Russian speaking Jews. And these aren't much like the Liberal Jews of the United States who primarily fall for alleged Victimhood, Statelessness, of Palestinians. These are extremely important demographic observations - not unlike the demographic research of Trump's team that studied how to win the election in the United States. It appears that the educated East Coasters and West Coasters were Electorally less significant that the No-College-Education-White-Men in the middle of the country, aka the Rust Belt. These million Israeli Jews from Russia must have a significant impact on the economy of Russia in a very positive way. As a result, President Vladimir Putin, of the Russian Federation is somewhat of a Philo-Semite; there is, arguably, little or no Antisemitism permitted in Russia under his regime; in fact, the Jewish communities there are flourishing, and Chabad, the Lubavitcher Hasidim community is particularly pleased with the religious tolerance Jews and Judaism are accorded in today's Russia. That brings me back to the issue of studying the writings by Richard Pipes in order to understand better the possibilities which may come about when, or if, the Russian Federation under Putin, comes to form an alliance with the United States of America to recognize Israel as the State of the Jewish People, and that the West Bank under the PLO and Gaza under Hamas are mere non-state terrorist organizations. Putin is, as Trump recognizes, and as Henry Kissinger does also, a Strong Leader. I take that to mean that he practices Realpolitik as established under Kissinger in the 20th century. Putin pacified his rebellious state, Chechnya, a Sunni Muslim entity, without fearing Sunni Islam (we often overlook the fact that Putin defeated Terrorist Islamism within his realm). In summary, assuming familiarity with the studies of Richard Pipes, on Russia, and its successor, the Soviet Union, I believe that is a strong possibility Israel will permitted to define its borders unilaterally, its Capitol will be recognized by the United States, and maybe the Russian Federation, to be Jerusalem, and last, but not least, both Shia Hezbollah and Iran will be squeezed of back to borders significantly further from Israel, Lebanon, and Syria. In brief, Putin and Trump will manifest their Bromance, while the European Union will look on in astonishment.
